Our four team members and three reserves made the journey to Straits Primary School to compete against Quarry Bank Primary School.

Our team started off confidently, missing out on just one question in the first round and finishing equal with Quarry Bank. The next round was a true or false round; questions were asked about each of the books and children had to decide if the fact was true or false. These questions were really hard as they were very specific about exact wording of the book. Round three got even harder with Roberts and Quarry Bank spending a lot of time thinking over their answers before actually giving them. For the fourth round, we got the chance to substitute members of our team giving the reserves a chance to take part answering questions about the book titles and authors. Round five was all about the book “Owen and the Soldier”. A new idea was introduced in round six with the team being given a puzzle sheets and questions about the books.

It was an intense competition with Roberts trailing just one or two marks behind Quarry Bank for most of the competition but clawed this back in the final round finishing equal with Quarry Bank! Roberts and Quarry Bank dropped just three marks in the whole book quiz! This meant we had to go into the tie breaker round...

Roberts did extremely well in the tie breaker beating Quarry Bank by 2 points to win the final!

All children did have put a lot of work into the three sets of quizzes, having read and researched all six books in detail and should be really proud of their achievement.

If you want to know more, talk to our teams or read the books:

  • “Journey to the Centre of the Earth” by Jules Verne
  • “The Accidental Prime Minister” by Tom Mclachlan
  • “Storm Dog” by Holly Webb
  • “The Unbelievable Challenge” by Dave Lowe
  • “Owen and the Soldier” by Lisa Thompson
  • “Max Champion and the Great Race Car” by Alexander MccAll-Smith
