Exciting new school dinner menus from January!

30 December 2011

From January Roberts Primary School, in conjunction with Dudley Catering, is launching a simplified new school dinner menu.
Each daily menu follows a theme:
  • Spicy Monday
  • Pasta Tuesday
  • Traditional Wednesday
  • Fishy Thursday
  • Fast Food Friday
There will also be a vegetarian option, ‘Spuddy Buddy’ baked potato and wraps/sandwiches each day. Menus will follow a 3 week cycle.

Puddings will also be simplified with a single favourite pudding as main choice (with yogurts, fruit and cheese & biscuits available).

The idea behind the new menu is to try to ensure children always get the meal they expect and are not disappointed to find their choice is no longer available.

By offering one main meal each day we hope to improve the quality of meals and increase the number of children having a hot meal each day.  The exciting new menu features a single choice each day based on the dinners children told us they like best.

We asked Roberts children what their favourite dinners are and we have included these on our new menu which is also nutritionally balanced and provides a healthy diet.

The new menu will run from January until April: £1-80 per day.

Wishing you an Apple Christmas!

06 December 2011

Reception children planted 21 fruit trees to grow as our new orchard at the far end of the football pitch. They were helped by parents and carers to dig holes and plant the new trees.

The trees include apple, plum and pear trees and have been provided by Dudley Catering Service to encourage healthy eating and growing your own food - yum! yum!

Mayor of Dudley, Cllr Michael Evans and Cllr Sue Greenaway visited the new orchard to plant a tree and lend a hand.

The project has been planned by EZone manager Guy de Szathmary.  We hope the children will soon enjoy picking and eating the fruit!

OOmph! Festival Bus is a big hit!

10 November 2011

On Thursday 10 November we were delighted to welcome both the Oomph! Festival Bus and poet Roz Goddard to Roberts.

Children in year 3 and 6 visited the bus for Twitter Poetry sessions inspired by the art work from the Oomph! Festival. The children tweeted short poems based on the pictures they saw.

The children were very enthusiastic and were encouraged by our visiting poet to try out new language and ideas. It was OOOMPHH - TASTIC!

Roz Goddard was previously Birmingham Poet Laureate.
